The Baqi' Cemetery, covering an area of 180,000 square meters, is the most famous cemetery in Madinah and is still in use today. 

It is the final resting place of many of the Companions (Sahabah), the Mothers of the Believers (Ummahat al-Mu’minin), and several revered followers (Tabi'un), may Allah have mercy on them. 

Pilgrims visiting Madinah often stop at the Baqi' to greet its inhabitants with the words: "Peace be upon you, O dwelling of a believing people, and we, by Allah’s will, will join you." 

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when passing by Baqi': "O Allah, forgive the people of Baqi' al-Gharqad."
