The Cave of Thawr

The Cave of Thawr is located south of Mecca and is mentioned in the Quran.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed there for three nights during their migration from Mecca to Medina. Lady Asma, the daughter of Abu Bakr, brought them food during their stay.

When the Quraysh reached the cave, Abu Bakr grew worried, saying, "If one of them were to look down at their feet, they would see us beneath them." The Prophet (peace be upon him) reassured him, saying: "O Abu Bakr, what do you think of two, with Allah as their third?"

The cave witnessed a profound sense of tranquility and peace that filled the hearts of the Prophet and his companion, even with the Quraysh so close. Allah immortalized this moment of victory and divine support in the Quran, in Surah At-Tawbah (9:40):
"If you do not aid him, Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, 'Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us.' And Allah sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with soldiers you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise."

The story of the cave symbolizes trust in Allah, divine protection, and the enduring legacy of faith.
